New Tutorial - For Anime Adoration Sparks

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Thursday, March 25, 2021 Under: Tutorials
Hey all!

It was so good to be able to tackle a new tutorial again! I hope I get to make more going forward. I'm still on another much bigger video, but I'm struggling to put together footage for it. May just pull pixabay in for it, lol.

Anyhow, NEW TUTORIAL!

Adoration Sparks/Sparkles, are nothing new to anime, but not something that is often captured. As with other anime visuals, it's the characters that matter and the visual language simply tells us more about the characters on-screen, their relationship dynamic or experience.

I covered in the Glows tutorial how glows are often used and what they mean in what context as well as what they look like. You can check that out here:

GOD is so great!!! I am beyond thankful! Hadn't had a new node group in what feels like forever!

You'll also see a quick version of this effect with Moses from Exodus, indicating his romance with Ziphora - obviously the context for the example isn't correct, she'd have to be there, but you get the idea, LOL.
Sparks/Sparkles are there for a few reasons:

1) Romance
Just like the above mentioned example. This would typically also get a fancy background to go along with it. This can vary just as widely as the amount of visual elements can be done in anime, lol.

2) Awesomeness
Whenever a character is perceived as being really awesome or whatever, this effect is also used, but with less of that glowy romance stuff. Sometimes added, but the biggest difference with awesomeness and romance is that shifting stills are used with sound, instead of animation.

3) Vanity
The example I used for the tutorial, lol. This one does sometimes have the glowy romantic stuff, but it's to suggest narcissism, not romance with a character - they're just awesome in their own eyes. For this, you also get varied background, just like for romance, but you can also just keep the current background - can be more hysterical if the surroundings don't play into how awesome the person thinks they are, haha.

4) Surrealism
A connection of sorts, if you will. Ethereal space. The presence of something or just a beautiful place to be made even more idealistic with sparkles.

I'm sure there may be more, but this is what I got, lol.

A different approach

I'd really like for my tutorials to take a slightly different approach. While I mainly teach anime, I want to do 2 things:
 - Broaden the scope to cover the film making and story aspects of it.
 - Focus more on teaching the tools, as opposed to leading you guys to a specific result.

I've already started doing this with my Interpreting Tutorials video as well as the 5.1 in Blender video. Like I mentioned earlier, I'm really trying to complete a very large video project within this exact kind of scope, but I need the space and time to tackle it and finish it.

I'd love to see what you guys build! Feel free to send me an email through my contact page with a link or comment and share by tagging me on Facebook @Panther Dynamics.

Have a super day!
GOD bless you!
